Typically, clients have a decent understanding of what goes into running a business, from accounting and marketing to manufacturing product and closing a sale.

The expertise they do not possess though is how to

stay focused and in action with intention and consistency

so they can grow their business and make more money.

Are some of these statements true for you?

  • You just can’t seem to get into action on the tasks that are most important. Either you have so much going on that you get overwhelmed and don’t know what to do next. Or you are bored with the monotony of the day to day running of your business.

Maybe you’re unsure what to do next and you procrastinate. Or you have trouble beginning any of the tasks you have before you. Or once you start working on something, you have trouble finishing it. You look back on your day and say to yourself with disappointment, “Once again I didn’t finish what I set out to do.”

At Focused Business Action, these challenges fall in the External Action Zone, or put more simply being effective and productive with your implementation and follow through.

  • You go about your day without a plan doing whatever feels right in the moment. You get frustrated because you work so hard, but don’t seem to get anywhere. Perhaps you have many projects going on simultaneously, and none of them ever seems to get completed. You often find yourself putting out fires, even though many other tasks are calling for your attention. Or you keep getting sidetracked with distractions like phone calls, the Internet, and yes, even clients.

You’re so mired in the day-to-day running of your business that you never have time to plan out how you want your business to look. You either don’t have a defined business plan or don’t refer to it so you are unclear about your next steps and hazy about your long-range vision.

The Focused Business Action program sees this as the Internal Action Zone, or in other words strategic planning.

  • You have trouble organizing your work space. You feel stuck because your clutter is keeping you from moving forward. Your desk is a mess. You are inundated with email and other messages.

Your filing system is more of a piling system. Oh, sure. You might go through your pile occasionally, but that pile is always there in the corner of your eye. Even though you generally know where important papers are, when you need something from the pile, you spend a lot of time looking for it .

You don’t have systems set up so that your business can run smoothly at all times. Or if you do have systems, you don’t use them consistently.

This obstacles here lie in the External Focus Zone, or systems and environments.

  • You feel concerned or discouraged about your business. You have a sense of underachievement (regardless of how much you have actually accomplished). You ask yourself if you really have what it takes and if you’re going to make it before you run out of money. You get frustrated and lose confidence. Sometimes it feels as though your business is never going to improve.

Every time something doesn’t go your way, it gets more and more difficult to stay upbeat. You know that what you have to offer has value, but wonder if others will ever recognize it (not to mention ever pay for it). You helplessly watch as you fear your business will be run into the ground.

This is in the Internal Focus Zone, the mindset that creates your thoughts and feelings.

Does this describe you? Well, I’ve got great news for you – you are so in the right place right now!

You are likely to succeed in this program if:

  • You are hungry for change. You are an adventurous type, courageous enough to “try on” new concepts and different ways of doing things. Even though it might take some time to develop new habits, you are willing to make a conscious effort over time to implement new ways of running your business.

  • Once you have the tools and support, you are willing and able to take action to build the business you are committed to creating. You fully intend to do the things you say you are going to do. You are willing to stop the self–defeating behaviors (we all have to some degree) that limit your success. When distractions get in the way, you can be counted on to “clean it up” and conduct yourself differently to keep on track in the future.

  • You have big dreams and desires for your business. You have a passion and it shows. Yes, it’s personal. When you read the following quote from the movie Field of Dreams, your business comes to mind and you feel moved:

People will come, Ray. They’ll come…for reasons they can’t even fathom. They’ll turn up your driveway, not knowing for sure why they’re doing it…Oh, people will come, Ray. People will most definitely come.

  • You see yourself as a leader who motivates and inspires others. You like to partner and work on projects with your colleagues. You welcome feedback, information and guidance, and then do your best to make a firm decision that serves you and your business.

  • You are upbeat, intelligent, and compassionate. You are generally positive about life and your business. Your resourcefulness and creativity serve you well. You care about others.

  • You are open to using technology to be more effective in your business. You utilize (or want to learn how to use) your computer, the Internet, and social media as resources for your business. You are willing to say, “Technology is my friend.”
